Mount Katahdin, Maine's highest peak (5,267 feet) is the north east's ski mountaineering best kept secret. Katahdin translated in Abnaki Native American tongue means "great mountain" . This granite monolith lives up to its name and is the highest mountain in Maine and stretches along a four-mile-long- wind blown ridge that includes many highpoints: two summits; Baxter Peak, Hamlin Ridge, and Pamola Peak.
